We wake up at about 5 am to go from Cusco to Mollepata Village and Soraypampa (2900 meters above sea level) in our private van for about 3 hours. We will arrive to Mollepara around 7:00 am, we stop for 30 minutes to have breakfast in local restaurant if the group wants (not included in the program) or to buy some last minute supplies (not included).
Then we continue our trip by car uphill, for 1 hour more until arrive to Soraypampa (the Salkantay Trek trailhead 3850 meters). There we meet our support staff, who will transport our packs and camp equipments on the horses and mules. From there we will start to hike until Lagoon of Humantay Peak, this hike is for 2 hours approximately, it is an amazing lake in the mountains and then we descend back to Soraypampa for lunch.
After an energizing lunch and start our hike by the Salkantay Trek. We start on a moderate pace for 1 hour until we get to Quishuarcancha camp.
Today we will wake up early to have an energizing breakfast and start to prepare ourselves for the Salkantay Trek. We start on a moderate pace for 1 hour and half until we get the Salkantay pass at 4,630m, surrounded by the salkantay (6,271m) and Humantay (6,100m) peaks, Salkantay is the second highest peak in the Cusco region.
Here we rest to enjoy the impressive scenery; you will also see small towers of stones called Apachetas. From here, we start to descend for 1 hour to Wayracmachay (3,800m) where we have lunch and a rest.
Finally continue descending for 4 hour more to our campsite in Chaullay to have the dinner.
Today is another early start after breakfast, we walk for around 5 hours till reach La Playa site, where we have lunch.
During the Salkantay trek by the mountainside, we can see various types of orchid’s flowers, species of plants, some cornfields, fruit fields, and an exquisite waterfall.
From here, after lunch, we continue by local car until Santa Teresa Village and to our campsite, and to Cocalmayo hot springs to swim in the pools. In the evening, we have dinner and rest at camp.
After breakfast, we will take a local transportation to Lucmabamba (40 minutes ride) to our start hiking point. Since here, our salkantay trek hike is uphill for around 3 hours, with amazing views until arrive to Llactapata inka site, from here we can see the back part of Huaynapichcu and Machu Picchu Mountain.
then we are exploring the Inca site together the guide, who will explain the importance, history, function of that place, and you will have time to take photos or rest. Next we are hiking for 2 hours downhill with incredible views until reach the hydroelectric station, where you will eat lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, you will continue hiking by the train road to Aguas Calientes village, that path will take us approximately 3 hours by the foot valley of Machu Picchu. This path is very inportant, because the American Hiram Bingham used to arrive to Machu Picchu after centuries. On Aguas Calientes we have the hotel to spent the night (included on this package), and we will enjoy the dinner in a local restaurant at about 7:00p.m.
Note: If the group do not want to walk more the salkantay trek, today we will catch the traditional trail directly to Hydroelectric without Llactapata. It will depend of the group.
Today is the most important day. To get the most of the day, we encourage every trekker to have a very early breakfast to catch one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu (starts at 5:30AM). Do not worry about your bags; the hotel will keep for you until you come back from your visit.
The bus will take 30 minutes to the Machupicchu entrance and once you arrive, your guide will introduce you to Machu Picchu, one of the 7 Wonders of the World. You will head directly to a beautiful place to watch the sunrise and take pictures.
Your guide will walk you around the citadel for about 2 hours teaching you more of the history, culture of the Incas and the importance of this site. At the end of the tour, if you arranged the hike to Huaynapicchu, your guide will show you where to line to begin this hike, which will take no more than 2 hours roundtrip.
Finally you should start to back to Aguas Calientes, as your train will typically leave at 16:20 or 18:30 pm. You will head by train to Ollantaytambo, which will take 2 hours, and then a 2 hours car ride back to Cusco.
