Itinerary: Short Inca Trail Trek

Day 1Train to km 104 and Hike to Machu Picchu

Short Inca TrailWe will pick you up from your hotel of Cusco at 4 am, If your hotel is located in the Sacred Valley at 5 am, and drive to Ollantaytambo. We recommend overnight the day before in Ollantaytambo; you can save 1.5 hours of travel from Cusco.

At 5:30 am the guide will give you lunch to carry in your backpack, then we will go to the train station to board the train to kilometer 104.

We will get off at kilometer 104, where the Inca Trail begins (2,000m/6,560 feet above sea level), here we must show your passport at the checkpoint to start the hike. The first hour and a half is uphill, with several shelters along the way to rest. Along the way we will stop at several points to appreciate the view of the Urubamba River valley.

The next hour and a half continue with a slightly steeper climb, passing a waterfall before arriving at the spectacular Inca site of Wiñay Wayna (2,600 m/8,500 ft above sea level). Your guide will tell you all the fascinating history about this beautiful place.

We will continue walking for about 5 more minutes to the resting place and lunch, we will have about 30 minutes to have lunch, rest and use the restrooms before continuing.

After lunch, we will walk mostly on an almost flat stretch to the famous Puerta del Sol, except for a few last steep stairs just a few meters before arriving at the Puerta del Sol. Upon arrival we will have our first incredible view of Machu Picchu.

After a well-deserved rest and enjoy the views, the last part of the hike begins, heading to Machu Picchu Park itself. Along the way we will see a couple of Inca sites with more and more beautiful views of Machu Picchu as we get closer and closer.

When we arrive at Machu Picchu, you will have plenty of free time to take pictures and appreciate the sunset over Machu Picchu and the sunset over the mountains.

Finally, we will board a bus from the Machu Picchu Park to the town of Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a hotel. Also, our dinner will be in a Tourist Restaurant, and the remaining time will be free for you.

Day 2Visit Machu Picchu and back to Cusco

To make the visit to Machu Picchu perfect, we will leave early, at 5:00 am to avoid large groups of tourists and enjoy a spectacular sunrise over the mountains of Machu Picchu – the short Inca Trail.

We will go by bus to reach the citadel of Machu Picchu, this short trip takes 25 minutes through some mountainous features and breathtaking views.

We will enter Machu Picchu to start the guided tour for about two hours to Machu Picchu, our guide will give you history lessons, will give you to know the functions of each place visited in the archaeological park, we will visit the most important places of Machu Picchu always following the new regulations of the Government.

After the guided tour, if you book an extra ticket for the Huayna Picchu mountain, you will start your additional hike. At the recommended time you will return to the town of Aguas Calientes by bus (included) for lunch at a local restaurant (not included).

Then you will have free time to explore the town of Aguas Calientes before departing by train to the town of Ollantaytambo. The train leaves at 15:20, this trip lasts one hour and thirty by the Vilcanota river valley to Ollantaytambo.

  • All Private TransportationTransportation from Cusco to Ollantaytambo on day 1, Consettur Bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Caleintes on day 1, Consettur Bus round trip on day 2 and from Ollantaytambo to Cusco on day 2.
  • Expeditions and Vista Done Train We include the Expedition train on day 1 from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, and the Vistadone train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo on day 2.
  • Meals Are included a box lunch of the day 1.
  • Medical KitAll our team were trained in first aid, all our guides carry a kit to face emergencies as well an oxygen tank.

What is not included?

  • Single Roomif you require a single room has an extra cost.
  • Gratuities for the team.Tipping is a common tradition on any kind of tour, the travelers tips to hand out to the muleteers, chefs and guides. Although we pay a good salary to all our team, always an extra is welcome for them.
  • Meals not mentioned.First Breakfast, Dinner on day 1, last lunch and dinner on day 2 are not included.
  • Trekking poles.Walking sticks with rubber tips are highly recommended to make easy your hike.
  • Travel insurance: It is not mandatory, but it is recommended to protect yourself financially from any lost excursions.

Pricing & Departure Dates

The tour can leave on any day of the week, from March to January. we dont leave on february because rain a lot.

The departured are 100% guaranted, because we operate since two travelers.

Price

Private Tour: 

Private tours are available and priced according party size.

Group Tour:

  • $ 530.00  US$ 490 per person.

A group tour means, that it is open for other travelers to join. This means, your group will have different fitness abilities.

Discount:

Travelers under 17 will have a $40 discount. Groups of 6 or more will have a $40 discount each. Please advise us when you are going to book to give you the discount.

Required Deposit:  To book, you need to make a pre payment of US$ 200.00 per person by PayPal.

Please after deposit send us the transfer number. Only with this we will be able to confirm your pre payment and reservation of the trek.

Balance: The remaining balance can be paid online by Paypal in advance, or in Cusco at briefing with cash (recommend) .

Notice: If your are going to pay the balance with credit or debit car is a charges 5%, that have to be covered by the clients, or can be pay in Cusco with cash without tax before the tour.

  • Air Mattress: $20 USD each for the all hike.
  • Walking Poles: $15 USD a pair for the all hike.
  • Personal Tent: $30 USD (for solo travellers)
  • Single Room: $40 USD per night (for the last night at Aguas Calientes Town)
  • Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain: $75 USD each (Please request when you book the tour)

Huayna Picchu mountain:  This is the famous mountain behind the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. it takes 50 minutes up, and another 40 to back, you can climb this mountain once finished the guided tour of Machu Picchu. The entry to this mountain has an extra cost, and need to be book in advance.

Machu Picchu Mountain: This is the other mountain who surrounds the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, it is less popular than Huayna Picchu and takes 1.5 hour up.  Also requires an extra entry that cost .
